March 28, 2008 Le Jardin Botanique |
The Tromeurs had a really good time at the Botanical Garden on Thursday, so we were really looking forward to going there as well. After a few little detours, we made it to the Gardens. Wow! What a great place!
We hadn’t even made it five feet inside the entrance and we were having a wonderful time. Just inside the entrance is a large koi pond, complete with a vending machine to get koi food! These giant goldfish ate like school of piranha at a abatoire! At times they were in such a frenzy to get to the food that they were literally climbing over each other, out of the water! |

The pathway led from the Koi Pond to what was easily Victoria and Kathie’s favorite part, the Lorakeets’ Aviary. We must have spent and hour in here in the morning and then another forty-five minutes after lunch. If Victoria and Kathie didn’t have five or six birds walking across them, they weren’t happy! |

From here, we went strolling through the Garden’s extensive web of paths, where they had thousands of tropical flowers from around the world. It was absolutely beautifully laid out to take advantage of the garden’s landscape, with colors abounding! |

We enjoyed lunch at the Garden’s restaurant - easily the best food that we had had all week. The view from the restaurant was spectacular, looking out across the Gardens and to the Caribbean. After lunch, we had to make one last visit to the lorikeets (after all, I still had coins to use for the machine that distributes the birds’ nectar!). |

We made it back to the villa just in time to join the Tromeurs for one last venture to the beach. Kathie decided to stay at the house to enjoy some quiet time with her book. For the rest of us, we had a great time making sand castles and playing in surf that was a bit rough at times (some of the waves were higher than me!). All in all, an awesome last full day in Guadeloupe! |
