Text Box: This trip seems like it has been a long time in coming. It was part of Kathie’s mother’s celebration of her twenty-ninth birthday (or at least the thirty-first anniversary of that birthday!). For me, it seems like it has been AGES since I was on last vacation. Okay, maybe it has only been seven months since we were in Costa Rica, but the last couple of months at work have been so go-go-go that I’m quite ready to leave that world behind for a short while!

Galápagos Islands

March 23rd To April 1, 2007

The Galapagos Islands was one of those destinations that was on our list of places we both wanted to visit, but was down the list of priorities.  For those who don’t remember their high school biology or history, the Gálapagos Islands are a collection of volcanic islands 600 miles off the western coast of South America.  For millions of years, they were totally untouched and uninhabited by man until the 1500’s.  Then, almost 300 years later, Charles Darwin visited the islands, spending about five weeks exploring the islands.  Years later, he pieced together his discoveries to write his book On The Origin Of Species which formulated the Theory Of Evolution.  As we were to discover as we went from island to island, it’s quite easy to understand how he would become inspired to create this innovative approach to the world.

Lastly, following are links to some of the many websites we used while planning this trip:

Our vacation was a 7-night cruise through the Galapagos Islands with a company called International Expeditions, a company that specializes in trips to some of the ecological wonders of the world.  Here’s a map and day-to-day itinerary of where we went.
