As the Loire Valley is not dominated by a high mountain range, the tempering influence of the westerly sea wind (which is driven by the Gulf Stream) is even noticeable deep inland, where a rather mild climate exists without extreme temperatures. The Valley does get colder than the more southern wine areas like Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley, resulting in a constant risk of damaging frosts in the spring.
