The German dining scene has undergone a major metamorphosis in recent decades, resulting in a growth in the number of restaurants that are recognized by the Michelin guide for their quality. This list of restaurants should not be considered complete and 100% authoritative, but rather as a starting point. We merely suggest that you listen to your inner voice when seeking a restaurant in a town or region with high numbers of tourists.

AM Mühlenberg 57 Ph: 011 49 06172 29878
The chef is somewhat of a local culinary legend. Although the prices are a bit high, they are worth it for the portion sizes, the service, and the ambience. Closed on Saturdays.

Graugaße 10 D 65375 Ph: 011 49 06723 2619
Arguably the best restaurant in the Rheingau, this restaurant has done something chefs around the world strive to do: precisely (almost analytically) create their dishes, but do so in a way that allows every nuance of the ingredients to flourish. Although the preparation often takes a bit more time than most people are used to waiting, the wine list will more than entertain you, offering wines (mostly from the Rheingau) that date back to the 1920's.

Rated by Michelin, their menu is purely local cuisine and the wines from Schloss Vollrads and Fürst Löwenstein. You can dine in the 17th century house or on the flowered terrace overlooking the river.

Not exactly a 3-star Michelin restaurant, but worth the stop, nonetheless. The specialties of Rheingau Riesling soup and duck served on the terrace overlooking the Rhine make this worth the drive.

Steingaße 10 D 65385 Ph: 011 49 06722 90500
The upside is that this restaurant has successfully made local cuisine sophisticated and matches it with a regional wine list that goes back over 100 years. The downside is that the clientele is heavily tourist. Definitely a place to go during the down-season.

Rheinuferstrasse 10 D 65385 Ph: 011 49 06722 4030
The restaurant in this luxurious hotel is truly a first class dining experience. The phenomenal list of German and Bordeaux wines are the perfect foil for the classic cuisine that is served in their elegant dining room or on their terrace.
